Description

A delightful casserole that combines the warmth of pancakes with savory sausages and melty cheese, perfect for breakfast or brunch gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 12 pancakes (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 lb breakfast sausage
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, gouda, mozzarella, or pepper jack)
  • 1 cup pure maple syrup
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup milk (whole or milk substitute)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a skillet, cook the sausage over medium heat until browned and fully cooked, then drain excess fat.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, maple syrup, baking powder, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  4. Grease a baking dish and layer half of the pancakes at the bottom.
  5. Spread the cooked sausage evenly over the pancakes, then sprinkle half of the shredded cheese on top.
  6. Pour half of the egg mixture over the sausage and cheese layer.
  7. Layer the remaining pancakes on top, followed by the rest of the sausage and cheese.
  8. Pour the remaining egg mixture over everything, covering well.
  9. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the egg is set and the top is golden brown.
  10. Let it cool slightly before serving and drizzle with extra maple syrup if desired.
