Description

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds
  • 1 tablespoon lemon zest (freshly grated)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon honey (for boiling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Combine the flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, poppy seeds, and lemon zest in a mixing bowl.
  3. Add the lemon juice and warm water to the dry ingredients. Mix until the dough begins to come together.
  4. Knead the dough until smooth and elastic, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Divide the dough into 6 equal pieces and shape each into a bagel.
  6. Boil a large pot of water with honey, then gently place each bagel into the water. Boil for 1 minute on each side.
  7. Place each boiled bagel onto a baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For an even crispier bagel, flip them halfway during baking. You can customize with blueberries or nuts for added flavor.
