Description

A flavorful and comforting dish combining shrimp, seasoned sausage, and vibrant vegetables, perfect for family gatherings and potlucks.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb hamburger meat
  • 1 lb ground pork sausage
  • 1012 shrimp, tail off and deveined
  • 4 cups cooked rice
  • 2 cups broth (chicken recommended)
  • 1.5 cups mixed onions and bell peppers, chopped
  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil, divided
  • 1 tsp seafood seasoning
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 tbsp oregano
  • 3 tsp minced garlic
  • 1 tsp thyme
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp pepper, more to taste
  • 1/2 tsp salt, more to taste
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper (for a touch of heat)

Instructions

  1. Season the shrimp with seafood seasoning.
  2. In a skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of oil and sear the shrimp for 2-3 minutes per side. Remove and set aside.
  3. Brown the hamburger meat and pork sausage in the same skillet with remaining oil.
  4. Add chopped onions, bell peppers, and minced garlic, and sauté for 3-4 minutes.
  5. Sprinkle flour over the mixture, stir, and gradually add broth. Let it simmer for 5-7 minutes.
  6. Fold in the cooked rice and let it simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
  7. Return the shrimp to the skillet and mix well.
  8. Serve hot, garnished with chopped green onions or parsley.

Notes

For best results, use fresh or day-old rice. Feel free to customize with your choice of vegetables or proteins.
