Description

A flavorful dish combining shrimp, smoked sausage, and rice, infused with Cajun spices and vibrant vegetables for a comforting and satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 pound smoked sausage, sliced
  • 1 cup long-grain rice
  • 3 cups chicken broth
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 2 celery stalks, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt (to taste)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, add olive oil.
  2. Introduce the sliced smoked sausage and sauté until browned, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the diced onion, bell pepper, and celery; cook for an additional 4-5 minutes, stirring frequently.
  4. Stir in the minced garlic, Cajun seasoning, thyme, black pepper, and salt; sauté for about a minute until fragrant.
  5. Pour in the rice and stir well to coat it with flavors.
  6. Slowly add the chicken broth; bring to a boil.
  7. Once boiling, reduce heat, cover, and simmer for about 20 minutes.
  8. Gently fold in the shrimp and cook for an additional 5 minutes or until shrimp are pink and curled.
  9. Taste and adjust seasoning as necessary.
  10. Remove from heat, let rest for a couple of minutes, then fluff rice with a fork and garnish with green onions and parsley.

Notes

Ensure shrimp is fresh or properly thawed if using frozen. Adjust Cajun seasoning to taste.
